Nowadays, buyers are more inclined towards automated technology, which gives this product a thumbs down from our side. Even if we overlook this minor fault, we can’t be satisfied with the lack of automatic power on/shutdown features of this product. Initially, when we received this product, we were a little upset to find out that it doesn’t arrive in a shock-resistant case. Overall, this is a decent choice to consider, if you don’t have extremely high hopes and a deluxe budget. To make it even better, it saves you from the trouble of recalibration, providing you a first-class user experience. This product also offers an easy-to-read LCD that illustrates the measurement readings in two different units, such as mm and inches. It honestly doesn’t get any better than this. Now in case you’re not convinced yet, it further allows 0.01 mm increments to assure that the measurements are flawless. This way, the longevity of this product is improved by a great deal.įurthermore, this tool offers a decent 0-150 mm measurement range, which isn’t bad for its price range. The main benefit of this digital electronic caliper is that the electromagnetic inductivity of the AOS technology enhances its resistance to oil, dirt, and water.

We have a drawer full of these things and not one of them works well. They work great the first time out of the box but they lose their zero point and their accuracy starts to fail if you move them too fast or if the battery gets somewhat low. All these 20 dollar calipers are made in the same factory or with the same electronics. Our calipers get worked hard, long, and put away while still powered on.
We are constantly checking CNC and hand made parts made out of all materials. I work on a university team that uses milling machines and lathes on a regular basis. If you know of any calipers that fit those criteria, please let us know in the comments.

Apparently I’m not alone, as I’ve read about other people experiencing the same shortcomings with inexpensive calipers. Also, the electronics draw way too much current and the on/off switch only turns off the display, so the battery is dead when you really need it. Some of the issues I’ve experienced are jumpy readouts, clunky movement, and sharp edges. Since then, I have tried to purchase the same knock-off calipers and have found the quality seriously lacking. I purchased a really decent set of cheap calipers for only $20 about two decades ago. Wait, that’s me! I asked Stuart this question a few days ago and he didn’t have a recommendation, so I’m opening this up to the ToolGuyd Community.
